Elbow tendon pain · Redditch
Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow affect far more than racket sport players. If you lift, grip, type, or use your hands for work, the tendons around the elbow can become overloaded. The good news is that with the right approach, tendon pain responds well to treatment.
Book Your AssessmentWhat is it
Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is pain on the outer side of the elbow, where the wrist extensor tendons attach. Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) affects the inner side, where the wrist flexor tendons attach. Despite their names, both conditions are common in people who have never picked up a racket or a golf club.
Tendon pain at the elbow is typically an overuse problem. It develops when the load placed on the tendon exceeds its capacity to recover, whether that is from repetitive gripping, lifting, keyboard work, or a sudden increase in training volume.
Treatment is most effective when it addresses not just the tendon itself, but the mechanical factors contributing to overload, including how the forearm, wrist, and shoulder are functioning, and what load modifications need to be made during recovery.
Symptoms
Treatment
Understanding what is overloading the tendon is as important as treating it. Reece reviews your training, work tasks, and daily activity to identify what needs to change.
Soft tissue work to the forearm musculature, elbow joint mobilisation, and treatment of the cervical spine and shoulder where contributing dysfunction is found.
A graded loading programme to progressively build the tendon's capacity. This is the evidence-based approach to tendinopathy and it works.
